Phi Phi Islands
Dramatic limestone cliffs, emerald waters, and vibrant marine life in Thailand's tropical paradise
Destination Overview
The Phi Phi Islands (หมู่เกาะพีพี) are an archipelago in Thailand located between the popular coastal areas of Phuket and Krabi. Made up of six islands, with Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh being the most significant, these islands have captured the imagination of travelers worldwide with their extraordinary natural beauty.
Rising dramatically from the emerald-green waters of the Andaman Sea, the limestone karsts covered in lush vegetation create a landscape that seems almost surreal. Add pristine white-sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and crystal-clear waters, and it's easy to understand why the Phi Phi Islands are considered one of Thailand's most precious treasures.
When to Visit
The best time to visit the Phi Phi Islands is during the dry season from November to April. During these months, the weather is pleasant with less rainfall, and the sea is calm and clear, providing ideal conditions for snorkeling and diving. Peak season is from December to February.
Getting There
The only way to reach the Phi Phi Islands is by boat. Regular ferries operate from Phuket (about 2 hours) and Krabi (about 90 minutes). Speedboats are also available for a faster but more expensive journey. There are no airports on the islands.

Travel Tips
Book Ferry Tickets in Advance: During peak season, ferry tickets can sell out quickly. Book your transportation to and from the islands in advance to ensure availability.
Responsible Tourism: Maya Bay and other areas have suffered from overtourism. Follow all regulations, avoid stepping on coral, use reef-safe sunscreen, and never leave trash behind.
Cash is King: ATMs on the islands charge high fees and many places don't accept credit cards. Bring enough Thai Baht for your stay, but keep it secure as there are limited safety boxes.
Pack Light but Essential: Bring water shoes for rocky beaches, biodegradable sunscreen, insect repellent, and a dry bag for boat trips. Walking is the main transportation on the islands.
